Poker Glossary – Key Terms You Need to Know
One of the biggest hurdles for new players is getting to grips with poker's technical terminology. At best66, we want every Malaysian player to feel confident at the table. Below is a list of the most commonly used terms you should know before sitting down to play.
Blind— Mandatory bets placed before the cards are dealt by the players to the left of the dealer (Small Blind & Big Blind).
Flop— The first three community cards dealt face-up on the table after the initial betting round.
Turn— The fourth community card dealt after the Flop betting round.
River— The final community card (fifth) that opens the last opportunity to bet before the showdown.
Check— Passing your turn without betting when no bet has been made in the current round.
Raise— Increasing the bet amount that the next player is required to call.
Fold— Discarding your hand and withdrawing from the pot.
All-in— Pushing all your chips into the pot in a single bet.
Bluff— Making a large bet with a weak hand to force opponents to fold.
Pot Odds— The ratio between the pot size and the amount required to stay in the hand — the mathematical foundation of poker.
Continuation Bet (C-Bet)— A bet on the Flop made by the player who raised pre-flop, regardless of how the Flop improved their hand.
Bad Beat— Losing with a very strong hand because an opponent hits an unexpected card on the Turn or River.
